PREGNANCY DISCRIMINATION – Since the mid-1990s, it has been against the law to treat women less favourably because they are pregnant. We provide an overview of the current law and an outline of the relevant provisions of the recently published Equality Bill.
LAST ACT – Claimants must lodge tribunal complaints within a specific time period starting with the date of the last act (or omission). We look at a case in which the court said that a time limit can start from the date that a reasonable employer would take to make an adjustment for a disabled claimant.
PENSIONABLE PAY – If someone loses their job, tribunals can award compensation. We look at a case in which the court said that even if the claimant finds better paid employment, tribunals can still calculate a claimant’s loss by comparing both the monetary and non-monetary benefits of the two jobs.
IN BRIEF – The European Social Partners have agreed to revise the 1995 Framework Agreement on Parental Leave by increasing the length of parental leave from three to four months.
