Heptonstalls Celebrate Hat-Trick
Yorkshire and Lincolnshire solicitors Heptonstalls are celebrating a hat-trick after a third member of the firm was appointed to a top Law Society panel.
Nick Ward-Lowery has joined John Burman, Heptonstalls Managing Partner, and Sarah Johnson, Partner, on the Law Society’s Medical Negligence Panel, which is made up of lawyers who represent people making claims involving medical or dental negligence.
Nick said: "I’m delighted to have been appointed to the Panel because medical negligence is a highly specialised area and appointment to the Panel only follows an exacting accreditation process which recognises particular expertise in this field."
In the past year Nick and his two colleagues have won compensation totalling more than £6.5 million for people who have suffered as a result of medical negligence. Cases cover everything from babies injured during birth, through to delays in diagnosis, surgical errors, wrong drug treatment and missed fractures.
Heptonstalls’ Medical Negligence Department is one of the biggest in the region and its seven solicitors are currently representing several hundred people. In the past year, the Department’s workload has increased by over a third.
John Burman, who set up the Department in the early 1990s, has been a member of the Medical Negligence Panel since it was established about 10 years ago. Sarah Johnson joined the Panel at approximately the same time.
John said: "Helping to settle a medical negligence case is very satisfying because the compensation helps people to get their lives back on track by providing finance to cover aspects such as rehabilitation, long term care and the provision of equipment and home adaptations."
