Heptonstalls Solicitors traces its roots to a former practice dating from 1812. Robert Heptonstall started the firm in Goole between the Great War and the Second World War. The practice expanded to provide a general legal service to Goole and the surrounding areas. Four other practices were absorbed by the end of the last century. The firm then opened offices in Pontefract and Scunthorpe.
Up until the late 1970s Heptonstalls was mainly property based, but in common with many other firms litigation work began to increase, due to Legal Aid expanding around this time. Heptonstalls embraced this change, expanding its litigation service most of which was publicly funded.
From the late 1980s the firm started to specialise in Personal Injury and Medical Negligence work. Industrial Disease work was added shortly after 2000 and has expanded to be a very substantial part of the general personal injury work.
Heptonstalls is on the referral panel for Headway (severe brain injury cases) and the SIA (severe spinal injury cases).
